Session description:
Learn first-hand from an Orange Partner member about some of the in's-and-out's of working with the programme
to get your product commercialized directly with Orange.
The Skweezer mobile solution from Greenlight Wireless has done just that ... satisfying a demand from at least
one Orange country, and achieving commercialisation through the programme. That's what we're here for!
Session review from the Orange Partner Web site:
This packed session was a justification for attending the Camp, and for sending developers or marketing people
to future Camps, a 'Code Camp Success Story'.
The session began with a little history on Orange Dominicana, and how they work with Orange Partner to source
new innovations for the mobile users. Thien presented the issues and benefits of using agile flexible small
resourceful companies to supplement the network, and the issues the small company has approaching and integrating
with a mobile network.
Greenlight Wireless approached Orange Partner in the last Code Camp in Sarasota with their 'Skweezer' portal
web search, and basically asked for advice and touted the idea, which is now live on Orange
Dominicana's mobile portal. Skweezer is a reflowing portal, adjusting content to display on mobile devices, reflowing text and images.
By just tailoring the framework to include the Orange branding, and some theme overlays, the user has the whole
of the web based internet to use for content.
Greenlight Wireless worked with Orange Partner, becoming premium members, submitting the idea (the working
solution, not the final product or just an idea), where it was placed on the Orange Group Internal Catalogue.
They simultaneously approached the country specific partner and content managers to determine the need, most of
this actually at the camp in Sarasota, being introduced to the 'next person in the chain' within minutes, not
via extended email exchanges. Gaining feedback and suggestions they were able to prepare a launch product.
As their product is now on a portal, they've made it, and the audience realised how good a resource they were
facing, and the questions began to flow. Discussions between Thien, Kevin and the audience covered diverse but
important issues such as contracts, how revenue share is decided, timescales and targeting. Kevin also
highlighted important points to remember, keep the information flow going, reply quickly and keep the
communication flowing.
Most of the attendees seemed to grasp the concept, and more targeted questions appeared, and were clearly
answered, with a couple of appointments provisionally booked for later that day.
Again this sort of presentation is what the event is all about, and very enjoyable. Providing real people
who have 'made it' is a great incentive, and lowers the barriers between an application and a partnership.
About Orange Code Camp, Opio:
Orange Code Camp, Opio took place 17-19 October 2005 at Club Med Opio, near Nice, France. Orange gathered
together mobile application developers, games publishers, content providers, device manufacturers and operating
systems providers for an exciting three days.
